Renault have realised it makes no sense to try and make an electric car look like a normal conventional car and to their great credit Renault have simply thrown away the rule book in respect of traditional car design to create a truly unique vehicle. The Twizy kind of looks like a quad bike that has been squeezed from the side. The vehicle has one forward gear, and one reverse gear and from certain angles it can look like a golf buggy – but a golf buggy with attitude.
The Twizy comes with a 13kW motor capable of 50mph and a range of 60 miles from less than a four hour charge from a domestic electrical power socket. The power cable sits in a little box at the front of the car, and the battery itself fits under the passenger seat.
According to Renault, the Twizy is the first ever fully electric urban compact two-seater. It combines bold design and bright styling and it even has options – with metallic paint at £195, a set of alloys for £340, a clear sky roof for £195, an anti-lift security alarm for £195 and a leisure bag for £95, although our favourite option is without doubt the scissor doors which will cost you an additional £545. This is a really funky car and at the price you could easily buy one for your weekend or holiday home and at just over two metres long, it’s easy to park anywhere.
